PhiClub is developing what will eventually become a complete suite of public dialog and debate tools, aiming for a vision we call Structured Conversation. The author is a long time conversant in the dialogue, blogging and vlogging (most recently as Pyrrho314) at YouTube. The Video Timecode Tool, which you can use by entering a youtube video URL or ID in the edit box above, was the first in a series of tool which stand on their own for particular applications, but which are ultimately designed to work together as a cohesive system. The TimeCode Tool is now joined by the phiclub "clustering" system which is designed to be a much more flexible "subscription" feature for keeping track of other video makers. The main feature to watch for, which will mark the first, if minimal, implementation of Structured Conversation will two types of Structured Conversation, "Debate" which provides formal contests of ideas on agreed on rules, either open or limited to a "cluste", and "Book Club" which provides structures for people reading common source material, discussing it and leaving a record of their conclusions and interpretations.
Currently the note editor is a fully functioning viewer suitable for watching videos even if
notes are not kept, and notes can be taken without comment or context given, merely to help
mark important points in the video (like where one has stopped watching and will want to resume later).
Once integrated with a full advocacy system (the kernel of which is in use in the new Group/Clustering Features), and some ways for charting conversations, we will be able to introduce a Structured Debate features and will organize events to utilize the abilities of this system. We believe that people in online public dialogue are merely making do with current tools, and are at this time are not served well.
